3 Key Things I Learned During My Internship At Oasis

internshipThe definition of an internship is a “position of a student or trainee who works in an organization, in order to gain work experience or satisfy requirements for a qualification.”

This described what I was looking for a few months ago. I was enrolled in an internship class to finish the requirements for my bachelor’s degree at U of L. I had three credit hours left, and I was determined to make the most of them.

The way I found Oasis was kind of by a chance encounter. I wandered into an internship fair and one of my favorite professors pointed me in the direction of a teal table with three lovely people sitting there. We chatted about their company, myself, and then dogs... that’s how I knew it was meant to be.

After a more formal interview, I started my internship at Oasis Solutions on May 8th, and never looked back.

Was I nervous going into my first day? Yes.

Did I have any reason to be? Nope!

There’s a reason Oasis was voted 2017 Best Places to Work by Louisville Business First.

Oasis has a great sense of camaraderie, humor, and will to get it done.

I went into my internship looking for a sense of direction for my future, and real world experience, but I got more than I ever imagined! I was involved in everything from sales and lead generation, to digital marketing and SEO. I found that I really enjoyed everything Oasis had to offer.

I was able to participate in the company’s biggest event, Race To The Cloud, from start to finish. I attended company meetings as well as sales pitches and meetings. I’m so grateful for this opportunity as it has opened my eyes to what I want to do, and where I want to do it!

What I gleaned from this experience was:

  1. Jumping straight in is the best way to go.
  2. Don’t be afraid to ask: ask questions, ask for help, ask for what you want.
  3. Work should be fun. The people are what make it!

I am so thankful this opportunity with Oasis came about. It truly is the best place to work!
