What's going on? The Social Security Administration has moved up the due date to file 2016 W-2 and W-3 forms to January 31, 2017. This new deadline is whether you file electronically or use paper forms.
What does this mean?
An earlier deadline means that employers have less time to identify and make W-2 changes in Aatrix before e-filing occurs. If W-2 changes are submitted after the deadline, employers incur a processing fee to file W-2c (Corrected Wage and Tax Statement) forms.
Previously, Sage customers could select Aatrix W-2 submission dates in either February or March, allowing them time to identify any W-2 changes needed prior to the date that Aatrix filed forms with the Social Security Administration.
What should I do?
Employers are encouraged to send W-2 forms out to employees as early in January as possible to identify any W-2 changes and avoid incurring additional processing fees for corrections. Also, customers should be aware that Aatrix will likely have more limited e-filing data submission options in an effort to accommodate the earlier Social Security Administration deadline.
Sage customers need to be aware that Aatrix has established submission deadlines that precede official government-established due dates to guarantee processing by the official due date. Aatrix posted these submission deadlines on their website - check them here and plan accordingly!
