WINDOWS XP OFFICIALLY RETIRED

WINDOWS XP OFFICIALLY RETIRED AND NO LONGER SUPPORTED BY MICROSOFT AS OF 4/8/2014

What does that mean to you?  According to Microsoft, the retirement of Windows XP means that there will be no more patches or security updates available for Windows XP.  According to Microsoft “Without critical updates your PC will be susceptible to attacks that take advantage of vulnerabilities.  These attacks not only cause downtime but can also put your own business data at risk.”

You may want to know if updating your Anti-Virus or Web Browser will keep your system safe.  Microsoft says “Updating to a new web browser or anti-virus software is not enough to protect your business and may give you a false sense of security.  An unsupported OS will leave you vulnerable to external threats.  In fact, a new browser and apps with extensions can introduce new areas for attacks on your system.” The following link will provide further information and cautions from Microsoft regarding running on Windows XP since it has reached “End of Support” http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/business/retiring-xp.aspx

As a Sage 100 user, as you consider or plan a hardware upgrade, you need to know which versions of Windows are compatible with your software.  The Sage Supported Platform Matrix (SPM) advises the following for workstations:

Only Version 4.30.0.18 and higher support Windows 7.

  • Version 2013 (aka Version 5.00) supports Windows 8 (32 and 64-bit) OS when .NET Framework 3.5.1 is installed prior to Sage 100 workstation installation.
  • Version 2014 (aka Version 6.00) supports Windows 8.1 (32 and 64 bit) and Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit)

The SPM should be reviewed prior to purchasing new workstations for your installed version of Sage. You may contact us at Oasis to receive the SPM for your version or login to Sages website to download at https://customers.sagenorthamerica.com
